Saturday, July 13, Bovenkerk was an Olympic village for one day. The theme of the annual Summer Festival was, in fact, the Olympic Games. The goal was to let children experience through various sports games how nice it is to move together and get to know each other better through play. And, of course, sports are healthy too. Despite the autumnal weather, the Bovenkerk festival attracted a large crowd. Mayor Tjapko Poppens was also present.

NOC*NSF
Especially for the Children's Games, the president of NOC*NSF Anneke van Zanen-Nieberg visited the Summer Festival. She provided the opening ceremony by raising the Olympic flag together with the children. The sports organization's own goal is to promote sports in the Netherlands. This year's theme of Zomerfeest Bovenkerk was perfectly in line with that, according to Van Zanen-Nieberg.

Braderie, performances, cake and BBQ
Once again this year, partygoers were able to enjoy snacks and drinks as well as the cakes provided for the baking contest Heel Bovenkerk Bakt. And of course there was the fair. This year with as many as 40 stalls. During the event the bands The Rakers, Itchycoo Park, Flapuit (music especially for small children) and the Bonus Band performed. There was also a dance demonstration by Rolstoelvereniging Amstelveen.

The Summer Festival ended with a fun neighborhood barbecue.
