Bovenkerk is changing over the years. Due to large-scale new construction after the year 2,000, in 2,022 about 34% of Bovenkerk has a different nationality. Half of them are from Western European countries and the other half from the other parts of the world.

What do we know about each other's culture? Does that go beyond a casual vacation? We thought it would be fun to develop an initiative to get to know each other better. We want to do this by sharing recipes with each other and also by eating them together.

Getting to know various nationalities and cultures

You may have been offered the recipe book by a close acquaintance. There are two recipe books in circulation and the promotion runs until the summer of 2025. If you get your hands on one of the books, the idea is that within two weeks you pick a recipe that suits your nationality and work it out in the Bovenkerks Recipe Book. There may be ingredients used that are difficult to obtain in the Netherlands. Try to replace them in the recipe with readily available products in the Netherlands.

Bovenkerks foodfesitval

In 2024, we will present the Bovenkerks Recipe Book at the first Bovenkerk Food Festival. In 2025 we will have enough recipes to publish the Bovenkerks recipe book for all residents of the neighborhood. In addition, we will be working with some of the recipes at the Noorddam Center. We will then make it a festive day. Exactly what that all looks like is not yet known. Those ideas are being worked on.
