We all know that exercise is good for you. And what do you like? All Dutch people over the age of 6 can ride a bike. Almost all of us also have a bicycle. For 18 million inhabitants, there are 23.4 million bicycles. 70% of the Dutch cycle at least once a week. The method of exercise is also very comfortable compared to other sports such as running.

Doortrappen Nederland, AmstelveenSport, Stichting Bovenkerk, Municipality of Amstelveen and Fietsmaatje Amstelveen are working together to get all of Amstelveen or bikes.

Participation is free. Offer: 2 cups of coffee and apple pie at the North Dam Center.

General information

Participation: Free walk-in, free of charge and no registration. Arrival and departure at the Noorddamcentrum, Noorddammerweg 1 in Amstelveen.
Parking: park bikes in the area marked with cones or in the bike racks. Racing bikes can be parked at the Noorddam Center.
Preparation: bike pumps are available at the door of the Noorddam Center.
Boarding: We have different groups of cyclists. Each group has its own color and distance. All participants will gather at the group/color of their choice in a timely manner. Please note the colored helmets and departure time.
Risk: Participation in this event is at the participants' own risk.
Group Safety: Preferably for the safety of yourself and others, wear a bicycle helmet, a yellow vest and use a bicycle mirror.
Guidance: Each group will have two guides: one who will indicate the route and speed and a broom bike. Both wear a helmet with a rain cover in the color of their group. The broom bike has a pannier for emergencies (first aid, repair kit, bike pump, dry cloth, bottle of water, dextrose and repair gloves). Racing cyclists do not have a pannier bag (own equipment).
On the Road: In case of calamities, the group cycles on and the broom bike stays with the calamity. The cyclists involved in the calamity try to solve it independently. If that does not work then a call can be made to:

  • Unwell or injured: call 911
  • Cattle trappers have their own emergency number
  • Amstelveen Sport for pickup with van
  • Bicycle damaged or flat tire: ANWB bicycle assistance and become a member immediately

Weather conditions: In strong wind or rain, there will be no cycling. However, the North Dam Center will be open to meet then.
Groups and routes: the routes are provided by volunteers. The distances are 20 and 30 km. The pace is "leisurely" in all groups.
