On Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15, there will be a celebration around St. Urbanus Church. It is an official moment for the volunteers who helped rebuild the church. The theme is "The light goes back on!" This is 6 years after the fatal fire, with the parish having now occupied the church for more than a year.
Where first the building was the focus, then the interior, the exterior of the Pierre Cuypers building has recently been the focus of hard work. The clutter has been cleaned up around the church, the garden has been fully restored and looks fresh and beautiful, the entrance is currently being addressed and the tower lighting is also being renewed. That is worth a celebration and for that we are looking for the poet in you.
What is the idea of the poems?
Write a poem and send it to the Friends of the Bovenkerk Urbanus Foundation by Sept. 1 (e-mail: vriendbov.urbanus@gmail.com or drop it off at the church office). Provide your poem with your name and contact information. In your poem, incorporate the themes:
- the new church garden,
- the new tower lighting,
- six years after the fatal fire.
From all entries, the Friends Foundation will choose a selection that will be on display in the church garden starting Friday, September 13. If your poem is selected, you will be notified personally. From September 14 all entries will be on the website: https://www.vriendenbovenkerkseurbanus.nl/.
The official opening is Sunday, September 15, at noon at the beautiful church garden. The church garden will be made even more beautiful for two days with additional flower arrangements. That may be just the moment you want to recite your poem.
