Solar house Bovenkerk is looking hard for camping gear to offer residents a mini-vacation in their own home. The seniors will arrive at their destination on Monday 3 July. Completely in style, because the Zonnehuis employees will be waiting for them in stewardess outfits. Each day, a different country will be in the spotlight. They will express this with decorations, music, snacks and drinks. They will also set up a mini-campsite in the garden to let the residents experience that wonderful feeling of having their feet in the grass in front of their caravan or tent.
“The best thing is when you have old things that bring back memories, so that it really brings them back,” says Silvia. She can already picture it: “For example, that people go to the garden to wash dishes with a bucket. That may seem like a nasty job, but for people with dementia it can be very valuable.”
They are still specifically looking for:
- A small and compact caravan or trailer tent that can be left in their garden for a week
- Nostalgic camping gear to borrow: think of a gas lamp, a stove, pans, crockery, a drying rack for laundry, a washing-up bowl, old camping guides, route maps, a parasol, a beach chair, etc.
- Someone who enjoys playing the guitar or accordion and/or singing
- Old suitcases that they can borrow for a week as decoration
- Travel books and other items regarding popular holiday destinations available for loan
Other ideas to make this week a party are also very welcome!
