Exchange tiles for greenery and municipality picks up tiles for free

Residents and businesses who are replacing their tiles for greenery can have their tiles picked up free of charge from Monday, March 25 through the end of October 2024 after registering. The tile service is almost every Monday. Just like last year, Amstelveen is participating in the national campaign 'NK Tegelwippen'. With this, the municipality encourages residents to green their gardens.

The NK Tegelwippen is part of the municipality's plans to prepare Amstelveen for the changing climate. Adaptations to the city are needed to deal with the increase in precipitation and the effects of the expected rise in temperature. Floor Gordon, alderman for Sustainability: "Every tile out in exchange for green contributes to this. And this year we have something new. We are competing with another municipality, namely the municipality of Gooise Meren. I hope that both municipalities green up considerably, but that we just wipe out a few more tiles per resident. So replace tiles and ensure a greener Amstelveen!"

Nationwide action

Of course, the championship is not just about rivalry, but has a higher, common goal. When tiles are replaced by grass, flowerbeds, trees and façade gardens, the Netherlands becomes more climate proof, more comfortable for insects and animals, cooler on hot days ánd much more beautiful!

How does the tile service work?

The municipality will collect the garden tiles through the end of October. As a thank you for replacing the tiles, all participants will receive a one-time free plant. On www.amstelveenrainproof.n l you can find all the information about the NK Tegelwippen and the collection days. Residents, as well as businesses and organizations, can sign up for the free tile service through this site. Registration is possible until no later than Wednesday prior to the collection day. Only garden tiles are collected, so no other (garden) waste. From Saturday prior to the collection day at 4 p.m. until no later than 7:30 a.m. on the collection day, the tiles can be placed on the nearest street corner.
