Theme: In conversation with a caregiver
August 28, 19:30 - 21:00 entrance free; welcome at 19:00.
Location: Wijkcentrum Middenhof, Dr. Willem Dreesweg 155, Amstelveen
On Thursday evening, discussion leader Job van Amerongen will talk with caregiver Michael Sharman. Michael's wife Annabella was diagnosed with dementia several years ago and now lives in a nursing home.
Michael takes visitors on their journey through questions such as:
When did you realize your partner's changing behavior was caused by dementia? What were the symptoms? Have you ever had the conversation with each other "what if one of us gets this diagnosis?" What help did you get when you were diagnosed? How does a partner with dementia affect your life, your relationship and your social contacts and pursuits? What remained of value to you? Even after the move to the nursing home was made.
For many caregivers, the topics discussed this evening will be recognizable. Of course there is always plenty of room on these evenings to ask questions and share experiences with each other. People with dementia, caregivers and caretakers are welcome!
The Alzheimer's Café is a free gathering for anyone with a form of dementia, their loved ones, family caregivers and caregivers. With expert speakers, meaningful topics and information about (coping with) dementia. You are welcome to listen, ask questions and exchange experiences. Safe, familiar and approachable. We would love to meet you at an Alzheimer's Café.
