Why Parkinson's boxing?
A healthy lifestyle has a major impact on your parkinson's. In addition to a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise can reduce your symptoms. This involves exercising one hour 3 to 5 times a week (according to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research).
Of all the sports, boxing appears to be the sport with the most athleticism. This form of boxing is called "non-contact" boxing, in which functional exercises are performed simultaneously with boxing. Doubles are crucial during training.
Boxing stimulates the neuroplasticity of the brain. It is a good way for improving mental and motor skills. The loss of dopamine is slowed down a bit. And it helps to produce new dopamine.
THE CLINIC
People with Parkinson's disease can try non-contact boxing in an approachable way through the clinic to see if non-contact boxing is for them. The clinic is conducted for a group of about 10 participants.
This group size is appropriate for people with Parkinson's Disease who do not currently have an increased risk of falling.
If you have a fall risk or want to continue after the clinic, you can register at Motion or another gym or physical therapist near you.
