Housing corporation Eigen Haard, together with flexible housing maker Moos, is building 97 temporary social housing units on the grounds of the Kalkbranderij. The housing complex will consist of three buildings. Most of the housing will be produced in Moos' assembly line and stacked on top of each other at the construction site. This reduces the construction time. The first building is already standing.
The housing at the Kalkbranderij is intended for groups of people who need urgent housing. This location will primarily house young people (61 homes) who can move on to permanent housing from there. The municipality will rent 36 homes from Eigen Haard to accommodate Ukrainian refugees who are currently staying in hotels in Amstelveen. The first housing block is expected to be occupied by the Ukrainian refugees in September. If everything goes according to plan, the two building blocks with youth housing will be completed at the end of November so that they will be in their new homes before Christmas.
Short construction period
Last February, the municipality and Eigen Haard signed a ground lease and a cooperation agreement for a period of 15 years. Adam Elzakalai, alderman for housing, and Arco Groothedde, director of Eigen Haard, stopped by on Friday, June 7, to see with their own eyes how construction work is progressing and how the residential floors are being assembled. The alderman thinks the homes look good: "And I'm happy that this complex can be realized so quickly." According to the alderman, there is a great need for affordable housing for young people in Amstelveen. "This is partly met by these homes, but it is also important that there is housing for Ukrainian refugees who have now been staying in hotel rooms for two years."
Good Start for Housing Seekers
"Usually building takes years. Now it's a matter of months," said Arco Groothedde, director at Eigen Haard. "It is fantastic to be able to be of significance for house seekers in Amstelveen so quickly. Together with the municipality, we will soon be happy to welcome the new tenants."
Flexible housing, same comfort
"Moos sees the world changing at an increasingly rapid pace and believes that buildings should change with it, in a sustainable and responsible way. Our Moos homes may be flexible (speeding up the construction process) and relocatable in the future, but they still offer the living comfort and quality standard of permanent homes," said Rosa Hoogma, commercial manager at Moos.
