If I take our street in mind we have neighbors from Morocco, Spain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Israel, Ethiopia, Colombia, Suriname, Italy, Venezuela, Japan.... How knowledgeable am I about everyone's culture? I am from the Netherlands and have never traveled outside of Europe, for example. I have no language skills and speak a meager word of English. We always took vacations in Western Europe, so I know a thing or two about that. And how is that for you? Are you from the Netherlands or are you from elsewhere? How well do you know the "idiosyncrasies" of other cultures?

All the facts at a glance

According to CBS figures as of 2025, Amstelveen is a municipality with approximately 96,000 residents of which more than half (53.8% = 51,500) have a migration background. Over a quarter (27% = 14,000) come from Europe and (73% = 37,500) come from outside. Just under half (47% = 24,000) of the migrants come from Asia.
