On Ascension Day, 24 teams gathered at soccer club RODA '23 in Amstelveen for the fourth edition of The Zero Hunger Games. It was a day full of energy and sportsmanship, despite the gray weather. About 250 players put their sportsmanship into action for a good cause: The Hunger Project. Moreover, the tournament raised a nice amount of €38,000 for a world without hunger. The team from RODA '23 walked away with the coveted cup. "We played today with the logo of The Hunger Project on our shirt so apparently it should have been like that." said the winning team.

The tournament was made possible by main sponsor NewPort Capital, host RODA '23 and a dedicated team of volunteers. Thanks to the sporting efforts of participating companies such as Deloitte, KPMG, WerkTalent and Delicia, it was another successful edition in Amstelveen.

Proceeds for Mozambique.

In addition to sporting achievements, the day's main focus was on an important cause: raising money for Mozambique. There, The Hunger Project is working with local partner Peace Parks Foundation to strengthen communities around Zinave National Park. Among other things, they receive training there in climate-resilient agriculture, entrepreneurship, food storage and access to clean drinking water. In doing so, they not only help people, but also protect nature and wildlife in the area. The goal? For communities to become resilient and self-reliant, and thus put an end to hunger and poverty themselves.

"When I visited the project in Mozambique last September, I saw for myself how great the challenges there are. But I also saw the enormous progress that has already been made, and especially the determination of people to shape their future. That touched me. This is precisely why, with NewPort Capital, we are organizing The Zero Hunger Games: a sporty networking day for our portfolio companies, associates and our team; linked to a goal in which people themselves take steps towards a better future." - Rob van der Laan, Managing Partner NewPort Capital

Festive closing with live music.

Familiar and new teams made the fourth edition another success. Not only the participation fee of € 1,100 per team contributed to the proceeds. Also 25% of the canteen turnover, donations from companies and the sale of lottery tickets during a well-stocked lottery contributed to this beautiful final amount.
Nearly 250 fanatical soccer players experienced a sporty and pleasant day at soccer club RODA '23. After the tournament there was a barbecue together and live performances by team players and DJ Jordy provided a festive end to the day.

Challenges posed by Mozambique's climate.

"Also with this fourth edition of The Zero Hunger Games we are extremely happy with the proceeds of € 38,000. In the villages where we work, we see what happens when people are given the means and knowledge to take action themselves. That self-reliance, that's what we do it for. At the same time, the challenges are increasing, especially due to climate change. That's why the focus in Mozambique is on climate resilient crops and food and water storage. Great that the teams are committed to this important goal."
- Annelies Kanis, director at The Hunger Project.
