On Saturday afternoon, November 22, the Vereniging Historisch Amstelveen, in cooperation with Amstelveen Oranje, is organizing a lecture afternoon on the Second World War. The afternoon is part of the program "Amstelveen 80 Years Liberated," which will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Amstelveen in 2025.
The afternoon of takes place at the Noorddamcentrum, Noorddammerweg 1 in AmstelveenBovenkerk) and lasts from 1:00 p.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m.
Program
1 p.m.: walk-in
1:30 p.m.: Lecture by Eduard IJsbrandij, in which he tells of a story from 1943, when a Messerschmitt Bf109G-6 took off from Fliegerhorst Schiphol.
2:30 p.m.: lecture by Pauline de Koning-Olthof, about her grandfather Jan Oranje, official "German Affairs" at the Amstelveen municipality during World War II.
3 p.m.: break with an opportunity to view historical material from World War II and pieces of lead from the tower of St. Urbanus Church.
3:30 p.m.: lecture by Fred Stokkel, on military activities in Bovenkerk using (aerial) photos and personal lore.
4 p.m.: lecture by Paul Hoogers on an early Englander and the history of squadron 320 of the Naval Air Service
5 p.m.: closing
Historical material
The afternoon will feature historical material from World War II, from the collections of René Kok and Frans Rosenberg, among others, and lead from the tower of St. Urbanus Church with names in it of German soldiers and residents of Bovenkerk.
Admission is free. Registration is not required.
