Lifeguards Jan and Martin haveonce again made sure the wading pool inUrbanuspark looks great. It’s wonderfulthat the wading poolhas beena sourceof joy and fun for manychildren from Bovenkerk the surrounding areafor years.

Stricter requirements

Under the new Environment Act, stricter rules apply to water quality and the management of swimming areas in Amstelveen. Water quality will be tested in 2026. It is expected that, if there are issues with bacteriological parameters, the pool will unfortunately have to close following a second consecutive violation of the standards. The pool can then reopen after a re-inspection with test results within the established standards. To meet all the new requirements, the municipality of Amstelveen has decided that our pool will be equipped with a swimming water treatment system for dosing and filtering the water. The pool will therefore be replaced. The current plan is for 2027. But this year, all the volunteers are still here for you one last time!

Swimming season

The swimming season runs from May 1 to September 1, unless the warm weather lasts longer. The pools are filled with water when the forecast calls for temperatures above 20 degrees and calm, sunny weather. This happens on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays around 11:00 a.m. and on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays around 10:00 a.m. The water is drained around 6:00 p.m. Of course, these times are subject to change. In the event of (or risk of) thunderstorms, the pools will not be filled for safety reasons.

Volunteers Wanted

The pool has been run entirely by volunteers for nearly 16 years. If you’d like to help open and close the pool, we’d love to hear from you. It takes about 30 minutes to turn it on and less than 5 minutes to turn it off. Please contact Lex Koot at lex.koot@ziggo.nl. Finally: let’s keep the pool and the surrounding area clean. That way, we can enjoy it for even longer.
