Following last year’s huge success, the Terschelling folk band Schylger Stout is returning to Bovenkerk. On Saturday, November 21, the band will once again host an atmospheric evening of Irish music at the Noorddamcentrum. This time, the musicians won’t be alone on stage; they’ll be joined by fellow musicians from Poppodium Bovenkerk.
Well-known folk band“
” For Frans Rosenberg, a former resident of Bovenkerk, performing feels like coming home. He has lived on Terschelling since 2001, where he has been a member of Schylger Stout for many years. The band has been around for over 25 years and has become a well-known name in the Dutch folk music scene. They have performed at events such as Oerol and regularly play at festivals, in theaters, and at other unique venues. Over the years, Schylger Stout has released four CDs.
Irish, Scottish, and a Bit Off-Key
The repertoire consists of a catchy mix of Irish and Scottish folk, interspersed with original arrangements and a healthy dose of humor. The band aptly describes this as “Irish, Scottish, and a Bit Off-Key.” The result is an evening filled with familiar melodies, energetic jigs and reels, heartfelt ballads, and fun sing-alongs. It’s often hard to sit still during their performance.
Free Admission
The Irish Evening is a collaboration between Schylger Stout and Poppodium Bovenkerk, with financial support from the Bovenkerk Foundation, the Amstelveen City Fund, and Amstelidee. Admission is free, so everyone can experience the warm atmosphere of Irish folk music.
The auditorium at the Noorddamcentrum, located at Noorddammerweg 1, opens at 8:00 p.m. The performance begins at 8:30 p.m. There was a lot of interest last year, so be sure to arrive on time—once it’s full, it’s full.
