Today at Zonnehuisgroep Amstelland the festive presentation of the Zonnehuispenningen took place at the Noorddamcentrum in Amstelveen. This special award, with a medal incorporating a sun stone, was created to thank and highlight our volunteers for their indispensable efforts within our organization.

The winners

Clients, their loved ones and care staff could nominate their favorite volunteer in advance. From a selection of ten nominees, four winners were eventually chosen, who dedicate themselves to residents and staff in their own unique way.
This year's Zonnehuispenning was awarded to:

  • Joke Peek, for her tireless efforts at Zonnehuis Majella. Joke is always willing to help, flexible and contributes to the well-being of residents and their families with her positive attitude.
  • Peter van Cronenborgh, volunteer at location Menno Simons. Peter is warm, involved and dedicated, and with his presence always manages to put a smile on the faces of residents and colleagues.
  • Thecla de Jongh, who puts her heart and soul into working at location Bovenkerk. She supports care in a variety of ways and is loved for her commitment.
  • Stien Appelboom, whose background as a crafts teacher makes residents enthusiastic about creative activities such as knitting, crocheting and embroidery.

Informal care

Alderman Marijn van Ballengooijen (Amstelveen municipality) expressed his appreciation for the power of informal care and the importance of volunteering in society. Director Sandra Oud put the ten nominated volunteers all in the limelight. The four winners received additional thanks for their years of commitment and valuable contribution to elderly care.
Sandra: 'The informal network of clients is invaluable to elderly care organizations. Volunteers bring not only extra hands, but especially extra heart to care. Their involvement, attention and closeness make a difference in the daily lives of residents. Without them we could not provide the same warm, human care.'
Zonnehuisgroep Amstelland is proud of its volunteers, who make a difference in the lives of residents day in and day out. The Zonnehuispenning is a token of appreciation for their hard work, cordiality and dedication.
