From June 17 to July 17, we’re celebrating rural nature. Hop on your bike, lace up your hiking boots, grab your binoculars, and prepare to be amazed.
For a whole month, there will be activities taking place all over the Netherlands. We’re shining a spotlight on that familiar landscape—with its flowering meadows teeming with buzzing insects and ditches full of aquatic life. It’s right there, if you know where to look. You’ll start seeing the world around you in a whole new light.
Where nature and agriculture reinforce each other
More than 13,000 farmers are working to promote biodiversity by implementing a variety of measures on their land. Thirty-nine agricultural collectives, affiliated with the BoerenNatuur association, are collaborating with them to create a landscape where agriculture and nature reinforce each other.
- Meadow birds find their breeding and foraging grounds there.
- Field birds benefit from flower-rich field margins and open fields.
- Insects thrive in herb-rich areas and along nature-friendly ditch banks.
- Wooded banks, hedges, and ditches provide valuable habitats for amphibians, mammals, and insects.
