From March 17 to 21, 2025 the Traffic Week will take place around OBS de Westwijzer in Amstelveen. This is an important moment when we pay extra attention to traffic safety in the neighborhood, with an emphasis on creating a safe school and living environment for our children and all road users.

Last year, together with Veilig Verkeer Nederland (VVN), the project 'Safe School Environment' was started as part of the Strategic Plan Traffic Safety 2030 commissioned by the municipality of Amstelveen. This project has led to a number of new agreements and measures to improve the traffic situation around our school for you as a resident as well as for the school children and their parents.

Important traffic arrangements for residents

  • Driving in and out: Residents can drive in and out as they please during this week. However, we kindly ask you to be mindful of the traffic around the school and drive and cycle at walking pace as much as possible
  • Speed limits:
    • A speed limit of 15 mph applies within the school area.
    • The surrounding streets have a speed limit of 30 mph.
  • Traffic agreements going into effect from Traffic Week:
    • Agreement 1: The Salamander will be a car-free zone during pick-up and drop-off times. Cars will not be allowed to drive here during pick-up and drop-off times.
    • Ruling 2: Parents who come by (bin) bike will park it in the bike parking area in front of the school.
    • Commitment 3: Students arriving by bicycle will place them in the bike racks provided.
    • Commitment 4: Parents coming by car will park at Roda and cross at the crosswalk to walk to school.
    • Commitment 5: There is a 15 km/h speed limit around the school and 30 km/h on Noorddammer Road.
    • Commitment 6: At the two zebras, help parents will also be present as crossing coaches to help children cross safely. At other bottlenecks, help parents will increase visibility.

After Traffic Week from March 17 to 21, 2025

After the Traffic Week, the VVN project leader, together with the school and parents, will evaluate the test phase and, if necessary, adjust the appointment card. There will be feedback to the Municipality of Amstelveen about the progress and any adjustments.

Would you like to think about traffic safety in Bovenkerk? Then we ask you to fill out the following neighborhood survey so we can include the results in the evaluation.
