On Tuesday evening, August 18, Amstelveen’s Climate Mayor, Wail Kherrazi, along with his father, Rachid Kherrazi, visited Bovenkerk. At the Noorddamcentrum, he met with members of the Sustainability Committee of the “ Bovenkerk ” Foundation.

The committee discussed the green plan for Bovenkerk that it had drawn up, as well as the sustainable initiatives already underway or still in development in the neighborhood. They also discussed how Wail could support the committee. For example, he could help reach out to and engage young people in sustainable projects.

In addition to serving as climate mayor, 17-year-old Wail is active in various ways in the areas of sustainability and youth. For example, he leads workshops on robotics and sustainability, is a member of the UNICEF Youth Panel, and runs his own foundation. He also balances all these activities with his schoolwork: next school year, he will begin his sixth year at the Technasium at Keizer Karelcollege.

It was a fascinating and inspiring evening, during which ideas were freely exchanged and promising, practical opportunities for collaboration emerged.

It was also nice to meet our new committee member, Maaike Woustra, right away. With her valuable knowledge and expertise in the field of sustainability, she is a great addition to the Sustainability Committee team.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration and hope to work together in the coming months to bring wonderful, sustainable initiatives to life for Bovenkerk .
