Weekly cycling groups are starting in Amstelveen!

Together with Stichting Bovenkerk, Stichting Fietsmaatjes Amstelveen and Amstelveen Sport, Doortrappen is organizing weekly bike rides for residents of the municipality of Amstelveen starting Thursday, June 8. The Noorddamcentrum will be chosen as a starting point for different groups of cyclists. Everyone is welcome to join in!

We're off and running!

Bike groups leave at 9:00 a.m. and return around 10:45. The cycling season ends on Sept. 24. During vacations, cycling continues as usual.

The North Dam Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for meetings between all cycling groups. Before departure and after entering, cyclists can enjoy coffee and apple pie, even in bad weather.

The Amstelveen bike 4-day

In addition to the weekly cycling group, from May 30 to June 2 there will be the Amstelveen Bicycle 4-Day. As the name implies, we will go on a bicycle tour 4 days in a row. Departure point is the Noorddam center at 9:00 am each time. On May 30 we have a special offer for free bicycle mirrors mounted by Fietshuys (in stock). Therefore, be there early that day.

Bicycle groups and safety

There are different groups depending on the type of bike and condition, such as road cyclists, electric bikes, regular bikes and duo-bikes. Safety is paramount while cycling in groups. Therefore, there are additional instructions to encourage safe behavior. These include information on wearing a bike helmet and the bike mirror, special vests for the first and last cyclists of a group, a tool kit at the last of a group for material breakdowns and a mini-course on group riding.

Keep pedaling until you are 100

Doortrappen is a national program to help people over 55 cycle longer, more safely and with more fun. Eight municipalities in Transport Region Amsterdam are part of this program, including Amstelveen. Doortrappen motivates elderly people to take their own measures to keep cycling safely. They do this with the help of practical cycling tips, useful exercises to stay flexible and fun activities in Amstelveen.
